Unity Above Self in America

Seeking Patriots To Solve the National Debt

This country is in grave danger of its own making

Hello, my name is Brian Walter. I am a local businessman in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

I developed an unlikely relationship with former Senator Thomas Coburn.
We hold a common belief that this country is in grave danger of its own making.

Please watch the video above; it's only 9 minutes long and will introduce you to the problem of the National Debt and what we're doing to help solve it.

Senator Tom Coburn and he and I sure believe this country is in grave danger of its own making.

Three are pervasive and very dangerous myths in our country that I would like to address with you.

The first is that somehow the national debt is not a problem, or if it is, there's not a problem to us individually.
    That's the myth.

The second one is nothing is happening in this country to solve this problem.
    That's also is a myth.

Third, even if there is a problem and something is being done to solve the problem, there is nothing we as individuals can do about this problem.

So if you could, I'd like to take a few minutes for us to spend some time together to talk through this.

I'm concerned that we as a nation are committing suicide, and it drives me to want to do something about it.

I know it drives many of you all, too, and this is our opportunity.

In our life were called the face things and to lead.

I firmly believe this is our opportunity to face that and make sure that our nation does not commit suicide under our watch.

so many given their lives for That is the very hope and future for our children and grandchildren)

But I've always felt like the real threat this country would face in my life would not be from an external threat; it would be from within.

I feel like we're living that now and have been. There are other symptoms to
the division we see in our country
the disrespect of one American for another.
I think it has its roots in that we don't face the problems before us spending being foremost.
Spending like we're spending, Sooner or later, the country will fail.

    Wow!

I'm reminded of a Bible verse that says, "what good does it do for a man to profit the whole world if he forfeits his soul in the process."

That drives me today. What good does it do for me to build the most successful business ever?

All respect to Governor Stitt, but what good is it due for Oklahoma to be the best state in the Union?

He's all about making us the top 10 states.
What if we're the number one state and the whole country fails.

    What good does it do?

I knew when I faced up to that very fact that I had to do something.
this effort says - let's find a solution

    What Motivates Congress?

They are motivated to get elected

Look at pay incentives for Congress.
What are they motivated to do by their pay?
I thought about it and an answer came to me...

They are motivated to get elected.
That's all Congress has to do to get full pay.

    • They don't have to show up to work on time
    • They don't have to show up for work at all
    • They don't have to vote in any particular way
    • They don't have to vote at all to get full pay and benefits
    • All they have to do is get elected and re-elected

And I would say they're pretty good that they're outstanding at that.

What if I were to change? What if they would have me have to come together and do the hard work of balancing the budget to give their pay

There's a Senate bill  950. Republican Mike Braun of Indiana and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia introduced the non-partisan Bill.

    No Budget - No Pay

    Senate Bill 950 (SB 950)

What if I were to change? What if they would have me have to come together and do the hard work of balancing the budget to give their pay

There's a Senate Bill 950. Republican Mike Braun of Indiana and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia introduced the non-partisan Bill.

The Bill is called "No budget - No pay.

If Congress does not pass a budget by October 1st of each year, Congress receives no salary until the budget passes.

We're not going to pay retroactively either.
    Once it's done, it's done.
No pay until the budget is made.
    It changes the incentive.

I think by changing the incentive, we can change the results
    We can change the game.

Folks, we're not trying to solve the whole problem here today.
    It's a complex problem,

but isn't it fun to be part of something that's trying to address?

That takes our lives and tries to make them count for something in the history of this country.

    Maybe it's our time is
the effort is asking you to think about "is that our time?"
is there something individually that you can do to help further this cause"
"is it right for us to face our problems?",
is it right for us to come together in a non-partisan way to discuss this?

Is it right for us as owners of the country to ask our leaders to sacrifice and face the problem?

this effort is quite simple now

We're not going to balance the budget overnight. Still, we're trying to bend the curve.
if you can get the trend going in the right direction
no matter how bad it is if you can Trend in the right direction
if you can bring in more money than your spending.
Eventually, you're going to be solvent.

but the opposite is also true
no matter how much you perceive your strength to be
if you're spending more than you're making,
sooner or later, you are going bankrupt.

What can we do? We're asking each one of Oklahoma's congressional districts to face this Bill and take a public position on Senate Bill 950.

Tell us, Will you be a sacrificial Patriot for the betterment of this country.
Will you be part of an effort that says, " I'll put my pay on the line to incentivize Congress to do what is necessary to save this country?"

It's okay to ask our Congressman to sacrifice.
We asked our young people to sacrifice in the military, and they do.
We don't ask them to sacrifice their pay.
We asked them to sacrifice their very lives if necessary to protect this country.

so today, I'm asking each of you
    will you sign your name?
will you put your support into this effort
will you put your name with ours
    will you donate?

We have given levels at multiple levels,
but what I'm asking you to do is consider doing something that feels sacrificial.
What are you willing to sacrifice for this great country?

    okay friend

Thank you for taking the time to view that video.

    Together we're strong
we can deal with these three myths
the national debt is a problem.

    There is something in place.
It's a simple non-partisan Grassroots effort in Senate Bill 950
and we individually in a simple non-partisan Grassroots effort to put pressure on individual legislators to face up to his patriotic Bill.

We started in El Reno, Oklahoma, in the district of Frank Lucas.

The plan is to go across Oklahoma and the nation.

We're going to use your money to buy newsprint ads and put pressure on the Congressman to force them to answer this question.

    Simple.

    it's a calling for me
I hope it will be for you as well
I hope you can join us.
